Painting's not Dead, it's just Hard.

Recently went to the Strand to pick up a copy of Painting, edited by Terry Myers, to find out there is whole series from the MIT Press touching upon all the other aspects of contemporary art (http://mitpress.mit.edu/catalog/browse/browse.asp?btype=6&serid=159).

So far Painting is a great read addressing the evolution of modern painting and its relevance today, offering interesting insights, reinforcing some of my views, and challenging others. I suspect the entire series is a $474.05 (cheaper on Amazon) equivalent of an MFA education, minus of course the blood, sweat, and tears of a real MFA education.

Also recommended is a monograph of Marlene Dumas, published by Phaidon, that I bought a few months ago at a book sale at the Zwirner gallery. I haven't seen too many art books with not only a ton of pictures, but as much insight from the actual artist, in the form of interviews, writings, and poems. One of the very few that I've enjoyed reading. If there are more like this, please let me know.
